Waterwight Book 1 of the Waterwight Series Volume 1 Laurel McHargue Books
I have read McHargue's other book "Miss?" in the past and when I heard she had a fantasy/YA book out, I couldn't get it on my Kindle fast enough. I think readers of all ages will enjoy the book and the characters who populate the world in Waterwight. There is enough left as a mystery in Book 1, that makes me look forward to Book 2. While there are many characters in the book, they are all easily identifiable and stand out on the own when the author is writing for them. Mine is the character of Orville, and I bet if you give this a try, he will be yours too. While it is aimed at the YA crowd, I in my late 40's enjoyed it thoroughly.

Waterwight Book 1 of the Waterwight Series Volume 1 Laurel McHargue Books Reviews
Delightful story, charming characters and excellent editing . . . three of the things that make this book a winner.
I cannot get enough, an incredible book. I am curious to see what else this author will come up with - the writing is spectacular, the plot is intriguing, and overall, I think this is an excellent book for readers of any age. Buy it, enjoy it, be impatient while you wait for the next one.
The twists and turns in this phantasmagorical adventure kept me in suspense! Definitely a great read no matter your age! The glossary and questions at the end of the book are great for classroom use. I will recommend this to all my teacher friends. My nieces and nephews are going to love this book. I know I'm already looking forward to the next one!
What a fun read! Entertaining and great use of language. The character development is well crafted. The book will be enjoyed by any age-group, but I love the helpful glossary for the young readers. It is a wonderful means to introduce group dynamics. I can't wait to read the second book! Will there be more travails or will they build a new nation?
What a great fantasy! Laurel McHargue spins a tale full of the stuff of dreams and nightmares (I'll be haunted by the "house of sand at the bottom of the sea" for a loooong time). Loved the characters and the setting... the pace kept me turning the pages. I understand there is a second in the series a-coming. I can't wait!
Waterwight is a good read for the younger YA readers. Celeste must save the world from destruciton. Along the way, she finds she has magical abilities and makes new friends including animals and spirits. As she is taken deep into a strange world, she must learn how to use her powers in time to survive a villainous shape-shifter.
I did want to know more about the event that fractured the world and other loose ends, but that’s what sequels are for, right?
I really enjoyed this first book in what promises to be a great series. The characters are endearing and relatable as they take you on an exciting and emotional journey of survival and discovery. I highly recommend this book to anyone between the ages of 10 and 110 who enjoys a good fantasy read. As a retired school administrator, I'm always on the look out for appropriate and new books to pass along to my teacher friends. I I would definitely recommend this book for students in grades 5-8 as either a class read or for a summer reading list. The author includes a glossary of vocabulary words as well as discussion questions. Great for lesson planning! I looking forward to the next book in the Waterwight series.
