I was glad to see this book show up.
I have read the other 10 books in the series and this one didn't disappoint.

The final chapter closed the series well and I felt a loss at the end of it. However, I felt better when I read in the back Hillary would return.

Each of the books in the series can stand alone. It's my recommendation however, that you read them in order.

MURDER AT WORK a gripping crime mystery full of twists edition by FAITH MARTIN Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Another in the series, but not as exciting as previous stories. This book wraps up Detective Hilary Greene's career on the force. I've already downloaded the first book post-retirement book and hope it will pick up the pace again.
Read them all and looking forward to the characters journey in the future. Its a pleasure to keep reading about interesting people and the paths they follow.
Loved this latest instalment! Well written story, just complex enough to keep you guessing and now I'm wondering what's going to happen next! Can't wait for the rest of the series to come to .
Faith Martin's (apparently) effortless prose again delivers a clever plot and rich characterisation. It's refreshing to read a whodunit which keeps the reader guessing to the last page, without drowning said reader in blood and violence. This time murder has struck much closer to home, and the killer has to be found before more police are killed.
So she's retiring. It's all over and Hillary is gone, but before she went she solved another one and got a good shot in at a vindictive supervisor. Now she's on another boat ride and maybe she'll find happiness???
I am an inveterate mystery reader. The first book in the Faith Martin "Murder" series that I read was "Murder in the Village". I liked it so much that i went back and started reading the whole series from the beginning, in sequence--which I recommend that you do, as it is an ongoing story with continuing characters. Hillary Greene is an engaging heroine, a smart and successful detective (these books are not English "cozies, but English police procedurals),who struggles with her weight and has problems with men. In, short, a normal woman but sharper and with a more interesting career than most. After finishing this series, i started reading Martin's "Narrow" series with Hillary retired and on the cold case squad. However, halfway through the series, discontinued it on , so i was left hanging.
Commander Marcus Donleavy orders DCI Paul Danvers to assign the next big case to DI Hillary Greene. She is due to retire in three weeks and the men think Hillary will not retire with an open murder case... Hillary, Gemma and Chang are assigned to the Michael Ivers case... Superintendent Brian Vane is out to get even with someone before he transfers to Hull...

This was the best book in the series so far! It was exciting to watch Hillary and what was left of her team investigate the murder. There was a list of suspects, Michael Ivers was not a very nice man. The case unfolded a little at a time, but I could not figure out who was guilty of the murder. There were several intriguing subplots, one involving Frank Ross (aka the poisoned cherub) — that was my favourite storyline! I was very curious to see if Hillary would retire or not, but she did exactly what I thought she would (given the circumstances and her reasons). Why the murder was committed was revealed first — that surprised me (but probably should not have). The who completely shocked me, I never suspected that person.

AfterThought I found this book to be a great whodunnit and I was thoroughly entertained!
